Homeless people seek somewhere to camp when Augusta overnight warming center closes
A listening session organized by unhoused people in Augusta prompted discussion of the difficulties of homelessness. Councilors are considering whether to allow tents to be set up on city property.

Central Mainers saw dirty sleeping bags in the trash, so they started washing them in their homes
Augusta-area volunteers are helping meet the needs of the homeless community, and reduce waste, through a new sleeping bag swap program.
Marshall Mercer, founder of the nonprofit recovery organization Hope Brokers Inc., is serving as a liaison between homeless people living in Augusta and volunteers in the Our Unhoused Response System email group. The group helps coordinate supplies, such as bedding or ponchos, and transportation for people in need. Just a month after its formation, It includes about 60 members
